Ibiza is an island with two harmonious faces. On the one hand, Ibiza has the best discos, famous DJs, music and joy, on the other - places sunk in silence and an omnipresent atmosphere of tranquility. This corner of Europe, until recently forgotten, is now mandatory for those who live life and good fun in international company.
Ibiza is the third largest island of the Balearic archipelago. Located south of Majorca, together with the neighboring Formentera it belongs to the smaller archipelago of Pitiuz named so by the ancient Greeks. The Mediterranean climate provides a dry and hot summer and warm winter. Ibiza is evergreen hills, vast pine forests and commonly occurring almond trees. The landscape offers a multitude of beautiful sandy beaches, on the background of which white houses have been built which are a symbol of Ibiza - the White Island. Visiting Ibiza you might want to start with the historical part of its capital - Eivissa. The fortified Upper City, perfectly preserved fortifications and 14th-century cathedral is a certificate of its rich history. Due to the enormous biodiversity and invaluable historical monuments the entire island has been entered onto the UNESCO List. However, Ibiza is first and foremost a vibrant place that during summer nights turns into a center of unlimited entertainment and endless fun.
In Eivissa are the best discos in Europe. In the most famous and prestigious there are the best DJs from around the world. For those wanting to lose themselves in the "magical nights" the local nightclubs are the perfect places to spend intense holidays. In the tourist part of the city the boardwalk is full of life. The longest beach in Ibiza is there, Platja d'en Bossa stretching out for 2700 metres. It has golden sand and begins less than 3 km south of the historical centre of the capital. On the other side just 2 km from the entertainment centre, in the Bay of Talamanca, on a length of more than 700 m stretches a beach with clear, turquoise water and fine sand. In the small Bay of Cala Llonga, 5 km from the large tourist destination Santa Eulalia we find one of the most beautiful beaches on the island of Ibiza. Cala Llonga Beach is U-shaped, it is 200 m long and approx. 100 m wide. It is surrounded by a thick pine forest, and its characteristic feature is the soft, light sand. The azure and clear water makes for very good conditions for diving. Cala Llonga is the perfect solution for those wishing to rest among family, but good bus and car communication will ensure transport for those willing to visit the entertainment centre Santa Eulalia and Eivissa.
The west coast also has its entertainment capital, where life goes on 24 hours a day. San Antonio is a developed yacht port with numerous bars and discos. Along the natural bay there is a beautiful boardwalk surrounded by palm trees. San Antonio, the second largest city in Ibiza, offers more than just a nightlife. The crystal clear water that sparkles with shades of turquoise and fine sand can be found at Cala Tarida beach, 10 km from San Antonio. This cosy town is the ideal place to spend a romantic holiday away from the busy towns of Ibiza. Approx. 5 km from the centre of San Antonio, in the holiday district of Port des Torrent, there are a few sandy coves perfect to laze under the sun or active relaxation, swimming and diving. Formentera has a varied coastline, from majestic cliffs to mild, sandy shores and intimate bays. There are over 20 km of sandy beaches, considered the most beautiful in the Mediterranean Sea. Most of them are distinguished by the Blue Flag certificate awarded for exceptional cleanliness and clarity of the water. In the crystal clear waters around the island there are excellent conditions for diving and snorkelling. Rich fauna and flora of coastal waters is unique on a European scale, in 1999 it was entered onto the UNESCO World Heritage list. The most popular, and at the same time the longest beach in Formentera, is Platja de Migjorn - 5 km long. The light, fine sand and sea that shimmers with all the shades of blue make this an ideal destination both for family holidays, as well as romantic holidays for two.
The well-prepared watersports base attracts amateurs of windsurfing and sailing. Es Pujols beach is different in nature, there are discos and bars here. Being in Formentera it is worth going to the capital of the island - Sant Francesco with its many restaurants, lovely pubs and shops, where you can buy souvenirs of the symbol of the island - Lilford's Wall Lizard, which is an endemic species occurring only in Formentera. The island's landscape can be admired from the vantage point of Es Mirador, which offers views of the beautiful panorama of the coast. One of the most popular sights is the lighthouse La Mola located on the west coast of the island. Formentera is best explored by bike or scooter, there are many kilometers of well maintained bike trails. One of the attractions are the salt saline lakes located in the north of the island, where salt used to be mined - today it is Ses Salines Nature Reserve. Characteristic for Formentera's landscape are also the fig groves and almond trees, as well as green stone pine forests by the azure sea. Thanks to the balance between tourism development and environmental protection it has managed to retain untouched nature and territories unpolluted by civilization.
