All Inclusive (109) Holidays (193) Rejsy (2)Lefkada with an area of 303 km², is the fourth largest island in the archipelago of the Ionian Islands. Mountainous with fertile valleys, covered with pine trees, cypresses, olive trees and vines, it owes its name to the adjective lefkos, meaning white, referring to the colour of the sharp cliffs of the western coast.
It is distinguished by the beauty of nature, climatic mountain villages, small monasteries hidden among the hills, the company of gorgeous islands in the east, excellent conditions for windsurfing and kitesurfing in the south, and beautiful beaches in the west. Unspoilt nature and authentic character - Lefkada has everything you need for the dream Greek holiday. A beautiful island on the Ionian Sea, in the western part of Greece, connected to the mainland by a long causeway and a bridge. Its main city is Lefkada, in the north, approx. 20 km from the Aktion (PVK) airport. Mountainous terrains prevail on the island, and the highest point Stavrota (1182 m a.s.l.) lies almost at its centre. On the east coast there are small holiday resorts: Ligia, Nikiana, Perigiali and Nidri - the largest resort on the island, overlooking Scorpios, once owned by Aristoteles Onassis. Vasiliki, the windsurfing centre, is located in the south. Not far from here you can admire Cape Lefkatas, where, according to legend, Sappho took her own life by jumping from a 30-metre cliff. The most famous beach of the island is Porto Katsiki on the west coast: crystal-clear sea provides ideal conditions not only for snorkeling. The inhabitants of Lefkada are people who live in accordance with tradition, with good hearts and great hospitality. The women still wear two skirts, dark shawls on their heads and tight corsets; for generations they have been dealing with embroidery. The island is famous for the cultivation of the best lentil, but this is not the only produce of the land. Others include olives, local wine made from strains of Verdea and Verdzami, as well as delicacies of the Greek cuisine.
