Romantic, full of cheerful holiday climates, the island of the Dodecanese archipelago owes its fame to Hipocrates, considered to be the father of medicine. For centuries it attracted health resort visitors, who took advantage of the most recent medical discoveries at the legendary Asclepeion, a place where divine worship was combined with science and health care.

Today, the motives for which tourists like to visit Kos have changed, but interesting sights and the invariably sunny, wonderful island climate have remained. Beautiful beaches, excellent conditions for watersports, good fun and unique atmosphere of the small Greek island cause that is is gladly chosen for peaceful family holidays or a getaway with friends. For persons professionally connected with medicine, Kos is a necessary place to visit! The island is only 50 km long and 10 km wide, so it is easy to find its most beautiful places even within a week. Beautiful beaches with different textures of sand are considered to be some of the best on the Greek Islands. The capital of the island is Kos city - vibrant, loved by tourists for its hospitality, great pubs and nightclubs. Here you can see how tangled the island's history was: Romans, Venetians, Turks, British and Italians rolled through Kos. The lovely seaside boardwalk with palm trees, shops and cafes on the streets add to the charm and create a holiday mood. It is worth visiting the Archaeological Museum, see the oldest in Europe platanus, by which Hippocrates himself is said to have taught. Just approx. 4 km from the city is Asclepeion, the centre of worship which served as a spa, terraced on a hillside with magnificent views. The beach district of the capital is Lambi with a lovely beach, excellent conditions for watersports, nice restaurants, taverns and cafés. The north coast of the island also tempts with beaches. From Tigaki, one of the most famous resorts in this part of Kos, a delightful and 10-km long sandy beach begins with low dunes, gently descending to the sea. Bars, restaurants and shops are along the main street; great taverns are also situated by the beach. It is not far from here to Marmari, a small tourist village with a nice flat beach, and a scenic view of islands and the Turkish Bodrum. Further west lies Mastichari, with a charming port, from where ferries depart to the island of Kalymnos, known for its excellent taverns with seafood and wine festival. In the area there is a modern aquapark Lido with an area of approx. 75 000 m² with a bunch of attractions (www.lidowaterpark.com).
