Dominican Republic - the second largest country in the Caribbean, on one of the most beautiful islands of the archipelago of the Greater Antilles, it was discovered for Europe in 1492 by Christopher Columbus. Santo Domingo, the capital of the country founded in 1496, is the oldest permanent European settlement in both Americas. They set out from here to conquer the New World. Today, the Dominican Republic is a leader on the list of favourite Caribbean holiday destinations. A big role in the popularity of the island play the Dominicans themselves, Spanish-speaking Creoles - the descendants of former colonizers and slaves, who are open, friendly and spontaneous people, which is expressed by the merengue dance. The middle of the island is mountainous and covered with tropical forests, the coast is sandy beaches that stretch out for many kilometers. Bathed in the warm waters of the uniquely turquoise sea, covered with huge coconut palm trees, which grow directly from the sand, provide a pleasant shade and add a touch of the exotic to the beautiful sunsets. Among the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world is Bavaro Beach, on the east coast, in the region of Punta Cana. Sweet and juicy fruits, pineapples and papayas, fresh vegetables and spices - it is also the national wealth of the sunny Dominican Republic. Excellent steaks from local husbandries, wonderful seafood: lobster, huge shrimp, mussels & delicious fish delight with a variety of flavours. You can try all these delicacies while on holiday in hotels, which, aside from an international cuisine, also offer local dishes.
