Obzor, formerly known as the City of the Sun, is a small resort town located on the coast of the Black Sea, halfway between Varna and Burgas. Along the coast, there is a promenade with bars and restaurants where you can taste various delicacies and excellent Bulgarian wine. Long, wide, sandy beaches are an ideal place to relax, with one of the most beautiful being Irakli, which is surrounded by the greenery of wild nature on one side and the waves of turquoise sea on the other. Families with children and water sports enthusiasts, who can enjoy jet skiing or windsurfing, often come here. It is worth taking a walk to the city center to see the remains of the Roman temple of Jupiter and to visit Nessebar, whose historic part has been inscribed on the UNESCO list. Obzor is less touristy than the well-known Golden Sands or Sunny Beach, and it is precisely here that you can enjoy the largest number of sunny days in Bulgaria throughout the year.

Attractions in the region

SOFIA – ALEXANDER NEVSKY SQUARE

The Cathedral of Saint Alexander Nevsky, which can accommodate 5,000 people, was built in the Neo-Byzantine style between 1882 and 1913, according to the design of the St. Petersburg architect A.N. Pomerantsev.

VARNA

On a high terrace overlooking the coast lies the enormous Sea Garden, designed by the Czech Anton Novak - the architect was inspired by the gardens of the imperial palace of Schönbrunn near Vienna.

RYLSKI MONASTERY

Czar Peter (927-969) made a pilgrimage to the famous monastery. An urn containing the heart of the last Bulgarian Tsar, Boris III, who converted to Orthodox Christianity here, is located in the church. There is also a museum with many exhibits on site.

ETYR

Here you can paint an icon, design and make beautiful jewelry, forge a horseshoe, sculpt a pot, and after all that hard work, enjoy some Turkish delight, halva, sesame seeds, and eat lots of delicious... Etyrek.

GABROVO

In this city of humor and satire, the clock on the tower also runs at night. It's not worth taking off your shoes in the morning to climb the tower and start the mechanism, only to climb up again in the evening to stop it...

NESEBAR

The walls of the proud Greek Messembria are adjacent to a complex of 18th-century Black Sea-style houses with intricately carved wooden pillars and bay windows. "Bulgarian Ravenna" delights with the view of churches.

IN THE STRANDJA MOUNTAINS

...Xenophon admired the dances of the Thracians. Thracian rituals have survived in the nestinar dance - a dance on hot coals. This tradition has been inscribed on the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

KAZANLAK

The brave Thracians with their horses rest in tombs in the Valley of the Thracian Kings. There are over 1,500 of them in the rose-scented Kazanlak Valley (it's also worth visiting the Rose Museum).

BACHKOVO MONASTERY

In the fresco Last Judgment in the church of Saint Nikola, the artist Zachary Zograf placed influential Turkish citizens of Plovdiv among the condemned. The suffering of Muslims gained approval from the Bulgarians, but naked sinners caused outrage.

PERPERIKON

The oracle of Dionysus, as famous as the oracle in the Temple of Apollo in Delphi, was in Perperikon! Therefore, "Alexander the Great himself heard such a prophecy here, that he would be the ruler of the world" (Suetonius, Lives of the Caesars).
