The archipelago and island nation on the Indian Ocean, northeast of Madagascar, approx. 1600 km from the coast of Africa, just below the equator.  The archipelago consists of 115 islands, of which only 33 are inhabited. The largest of the Islands is Mahé, it is approx. 6 km wide and approx. 26 km long, and here is the capital of the country, Victoria.  Other major islands are Praslin - approx. 39 km², Silhouette - approx. 21 km² and La Digue - approx. 10.4 km².
Mahé is called the "gateway to Seychelles", here is the seaport and the main international airport of the country. Discovered on the 19th of November 1792 by Captain Lazare Picault, it was named after Bertrand-François Mahé de la Bourdonnais, the French governor of Mauritius. Until 1814, the island was a French colony, later it belonged to Great Britain. In 1976 it became part of the independent Seychelles. In Mahé live more than 80% of the population of Seychelles.
In Mahé is the highest peak of the country Morne Seychellois - 905 m above sea level, which towers over the National Park of the same name, where there are many interesting walking trails. The length of the coastline is 491 km, the island boasts over 60 paradise beaches. One of the most famous beaches and the most entertaining destinations in Mahé is Beau Vallon in the north-western part of the island, situated in a bay of the same name and surrounded by mountains. The beach is long and wide, the white sand shines beautifully against the background of the turquoise Ocean, here is a section with picturesque granite rock formations. Beau Vallon is the only place in Seychelles, where you can practice watersports. From Beau Vallon it is only a few kilometers to Victoria, considered the smallest capital in the world. The heart of the city is a picturesque market, surrounded by lovely Creole houses, and its flagship is a miniature Big Ben. It is also worth visiting the Botanical Garden, where you can admire the unique coco de mer and giant turtles from Aldabra. The northern part of Mahe is replete with spectacular views, in this part of the island are also most of the hotels.
The south of Mahé consists of small coves, the Anses, one more beautiful than the other: Anse Takamaka, Anse Corail, Anse Cachee, Anse Forbans and Anse Parnel. On the west coast it is worth seeing Anse A la Mouche and Anse Intendance, as well as the picturesque bay Baie Lazare, named so in honour of the explorer and discoverer of the island, and the beautiful Petit Anse with stunning sunsets.
The Seychelles cuisine is simple and, at the same time, very exotic, exquisite and varied, in perfect harmony with the climate, enchanting both with its lightness and presentation of dishes. You can see in it French, African and Indian influences. The archipelago is famous for its delicious fish, octopus dishes are a delicacy. Dishes are served with rice, as well as jackfruit, which resemble boiled potatoes. A popular dish is cari coco: rice with extras spiced with a coconut curry cream. Delicious tropical fruits are the perfect dessert: papayas, coconuts, bananas, passionfruit, mangos, grapefruit, melons delight with their taste.
The popular dance in Seychelles is sega, fast in rhythm and with Creole words. Let yourself be enchanted by the sensual music, magnificent landscape, fantastic people, immerse yourself in the big blue of the Ocean and forget about the whole world: you are in paradise! And do not park under a coconut palm tree...
